STARTING OUT

Because of the flexible nature of the Internet, students have ample opportunity to explore topics that interest them and learn in new, non-traditional ways. Our boys can create professional-standard material that can be published for audiences anywhere in the world. They can produce their own online products and conduct experiments and simulations of all kinds within the classroom, or interactively with other learners across the Internet.

The Internet has globalised education and provides the opportunity for students to reach out real-time to peers all over the globe.

This very interactive nature of the Internet means that our boys also need to learn about digital citizenship – the best ways to interact safely and ethically online for leisure and for learning. Let's work together to create a rich technology future for each boy at the College.
Don Tapscott, author of Wikinomics: How mass collaboration changes everything, and Growing up Digital: The Rise of the Net Generation, addressed the young students involved in a global project examining the impact of emerging technologies in education. Don outlines the vital changes that are taking place in learning environments for students, and explains why it is important for us to be part of this change.

I'm back at schol!!

Having just joined this Ning I feel like I have enrolled again!! I originally started at SJC in 1961 and did the Leaving in 1965. I have been back often and SJC has always been a place where I have connected with friends. Hopefully it will happen here too!!

Adding students on Facebook

This is something I'm struggling with at the moment. A while ago I made a decision not to add current or potential future students to my Facebook account. This was mostly to remove any possible suggestion of favoritism. I find though that I am constantly helping ex-students with Uni Physics and think it is a bit ridiculous I don't offer this same support link to my current students. How do others deal with this issue? I'm more interested in how people maintain the students (and school community)…See More
